Iguana
Iguana, any of eight genera and roughly 30 species of the larger members of the lizard family Iguanidae. The name iguana usually refers only to the members of the subfamily Iguaninae. The best-known species is the common, or green, iguana (Iguana, iguana),
which occurs from Mexico southward to Brazil. Males of this species
reach a maximum length of over 2 metres (6.6 feet) and 6 kg (13.2
pounds). It is often seen basking in the sun on the branches of trees
overhanging water, into which it will plunge if disturbed. The common
iguana is green with dark bands that form rings on the tail; females are
grayish green and about half the weight of males.
